Tell us about your journey since joining Focal Point

My journey started almost two months ago, which is still pretty recent. This is the first time I’m working in the field of software engineering and navigation technology; making the initial experience both challenging and fascinating.

Everyday is different. And although there is still a lot of things to learn, I feel privileged to be surrounded by experts who are always willing to share their knowledge and insights. It definitely promotes a positive and creative working environment.

How would you describe the company culture and people?

One of the qualities I have appreciated the most since joining Focal Point is the relaxed and productive atmosphere. Knowledge-sharing is always encouraged, by a mix of internal technical seminars or daily discussion, creating an ideal environment for innovation and personal development. Other valued qualities that the company supports are flexibility, openness and trust. Colleagues in the office are positive and friendly, with a good sense of humour.

During work hours, everyone is committed, cooperative and supportive. We have regular team lunches and occasionally participate in after-work socials whether that’s attending local events, board gaming, or just a casual visit to the local pub.

How would you describe the work that you are doing on a daily basis - are you challenged, do you work with others, are you learning new things?

Every R&D oriented collaboration involves dealing with various challenges; commonly related to problem solving, prioritising, and acquiring new skills. However, the support and positive energy I receive from colleagues have helped me overcome such obstacles and convert them into a process of personal growth and development. A lot of opportunities are offered to participate on both customer and internal projects and I’m able to work with a diverse team. So far, working at a place where creativity and innovation are deliberately encouraged has been a constructive and satisfying experience.
